What is supportive shared living?

Supportive shared living is a housing model where residents live in a shared home environment while receiving access to structure, guidance, and resources that help promote stability and long-term success. It combines affordable housing with a community-centered setting designed to support individuals working toward greater independence.

Eligibility may vary based on availability, house fit, and individual circumstances. In general, individuals experiencing housing instability, life transitions, reentry, financial hardship, or other barriers to stable housing may be considered.

Ruth Essie Housing is built on the belief that housing should offer more than just a place to stay. We provide clean, structured, and respectful living environments where residents can experience consistency, accountability, and genuine community.

Our focus is creating homes where individuals feel safe, supported, and treated with dignity. We emphasize clear expectations, stable surroundings, and a culture of mutual respect—helping residents build a stronger foundation for daily living and future goals.

Depending on the location and individual needs, residents may receive guidance with life skills, referrals to community resources, assistance connecting with outside providers, and support navigating next steps toward personal stability and independence.

Housemate placement is based on overall fit, compatibility, shared expectations, and the ability to maintain a respectful living environment. Our goal is to create balanced households that support safety, peace, and positive community living.

Our housing model is designed to be more affordable than many traditional options by offering shared living arrangements. Monthly fees vary by location, room type, and availability.

Amenities vary by property, but may include furnished bedrooms, shared common areas, kitchen access, bathrooms, laundry facilities, outdoor space, and a clean, maintained home environment.

Length of stay depends on individual circumstances, house availability, and continued compliance with program expectations. We aim to provide stable housing for residents who remain in good standing and continue meeting their monthly obligations.

Individuals may apply by contacting Ruth Essie Housing directly or by referral through a provider, agency, or community organization. The process may include an intake screening, documentation review, and an interview to determine fit and availability.
